Garatelier in Dintorni

On 2 October Dintorni, the independent magazine covering art, design and creativity in the Veneto, published an interview with Cecilia Maran by Francesca Lepore. The title says a lot already: A Rubano la grafica d’arte diventa pratica condivisa: nasce Garatelier (In Rubano, fine art printmaking becomes a shared practice: Garatelier is born).
The article starts at the beginning, in a garage. When Cecilia was studying Printmaking Techniques at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice, classmates who had no press of their own came to print at her place. That room at home gave rise to the idea of an atelier open to everyone, which today occupies the rooms of the former car workshop at via Antonio Rossi 88, with the blue press, the four-arm screen printing carousel, the etching trays, the burnishers and the grounds.
Technique is put at the service of ideas.

The interview covers «Tracce», the first open call: 123 submissions, many from abroad, and eighteen works selected, from etching to screen printing, from reworked photography to the artist’s book. It also covers the installation, designed to shorten the distance between viewer and work: no frames, no glass, paper to look at up close and, wearing gloves, to touch.
Then what comes after the exhibition. The rooms go back to production and experimentation, with workshops for beginners, more exhibitions and round tables with curators, designers and architects. A workshop where you can try things without fear of getting them wrong, open to people outside the field too.
