San Marco in Boccalama

Between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, San Marco in Bocca Lama was marked on maps as a ruined island, a lost one, since it could no longer be traced in the place names of the lagoon as it is today.

/The work

Research in the area between the Motte di Volpego and the Campanella channel managed to trace the island, uncovering the remains of a church dedicated to Saint Mark and of an adjoining monastery. Through the language of printmaking, the work offers a view of a part of the lagoon floor where mysteries still lie.

Alongside the print, a vector image of the Venetian lagoon was made, with the corresponding stretch of sea bed picked out in red.
